Straight Stairlifts in Southern California: Buyer's Guide

2 min read

If your stairs run in one straight line from bottom to top, a straight stairlift is the fastest and simplest way to make them safe again. At Stairlift Masters we install straight stairlifts across Southern California, and this guide explains how they work and how to choose one.

What is a straight stairlift?

A straight stairlift is a motorized seat that rides on a straight rail mounted to the stairs. Because the rail is a standard length cut to fit, it can be installed much sooner than a curved stairlift.

Key features to look for

  • Weight capacity that fits the rider, including heavy-duty models with a wider seat.

  • Folding seat, arms and footrest so others can still use the stairs.

  • Hinged rail that folds away if the rail end would block a door or hallway.

  • Swivel seat so the rider steps off onto the landing, away from the stairs.

  • Battery power that keeps the lift running during an outage.

  • Call-and-send remotes to bring the chair to either floor.

Straight stairlift models we install

We install straight stairlifts from trusted brands such as TK Access, AmeriGlide, Bruno, Harmar, Handicare and Acorn. Popular choices include the TK Access HomeGlide, the AmeriGlide Rave 2 and the heavy-duty Harmar Pinnacle SL600HD for riders who need extra capacity.

How straight stairlift installation works

  1. Free in-home assessment. We measure the staircase and review the rider's needs.

  2. Model selection. We match the lift to the rider's weight, mobility and space.

  3. Installation day. The rail mounts to the stair treads, not the wall, and installation usually takes a few hours.

  4. Training. We show the rider and family how to use and charge the lift.

Straight stairlift vs. curved stairlift

A straight stairlift only fits stairs with no turns or middle landings. If your staircase turns, even once, you need a curved stairlift with a custom rail. A free assessment confirms which one fits in a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Can the rest of the family still use the stairs? Yes. The seat, arms and footrest fold up against the rail.

What happens if the power goes out? Battery-powered models keep running, and they recharge when the chair is parked.

How long does installation take? Installation usually takes a few hours once the lift is ready.
